Happy Farmworkers Day to the People Who Keep R.D. Offutt Farms Growing

If you want to understand where good food truly begins, you don’t start in a kitchen or a grocery aisle, you start in a field at sunrise. That’s where you’ll find the people who work tirelessly, day in and day out, to keep food on our plates. Today on Farmworkers Day, we celebrate them — our family of families — the backbone of R.D. Offutt Farms.

Since our founder, Ron Offutt, planted his first potato crop with his father in 1964, people have been at the center of our farms. What started as a family operation has grown into a multi‑state farming network, but it still runs on the same values that guided that very first season: integrity, humility, partnership, and stewardship.

Our farmers bring those values to life every day, managing the full cycle of farming—from planning and planting to harvesting and storage—growing the potatoes that become staple foods for families across the country. From the field to the shop, from irrigation to transportation, farming is a team effort.

Our motto has always been, “If you take care of the land, it’ll take care of you.” Without the commitment of our team, that’s just a statement. But every one of our employees believes in caring for the land we’re allowed to steward so they can keep doing what they love, year after year.

You can see that commitment in every part of our operation. Behind every tasty French fry is a team building healthy soils through long crop rotations, reduced tillage, cover crops, and conservation. We’re in the fields every day, testing soil and tissue samples, checking pest thresholds, and using advanced precision tools to ensure we apply nutrients and protectants only when the crop truly needs them. It’s hands‑on, data‑driven work that reflects our belief in farming.

And while our practices are backed by science, it’s our people who make them succeed — people who have spent decades with us, raising families on the farm, passing down expertise. That’s why we call ourselves a “family of families.” Many of our operations are led by multi‑generation farming families, husbands and wives working side by side, and teammates who grow into leaders after years spent honing their craft.

To every farmworker at R.D. Offutt Farms — whether you operate equipment, manage irrigation, repair machinery, scout fields, store potatoes, operate trucks, or support our operations in countless other ways — thank you. You are the reason we are able to grow food responsibly, today and every day.
